The US Political System as a Business

For the last fifteen to twenty years; America has been overrun with negative ad campaigns, rhetoric, slogans and hype.  There has not been a single platform or politician with substance for years.  It has all been smoke and mirrors and cheap parlor tricks.  It seems the idea is to bluster, frighten and cajole Americans into their way of thinking.  I am still waiting for a politician to say, "Here are my philosophies and plans for America, if I am elected."  The plan would detail their position on taxation, government spending and detail out their administrative objectives and goals.  It is written and there is no "spin" or flip flopping.

Unfortunately, today, in most cases, you are voting for the puppeteer behind the politician.  Our entire government is run by the people behind the curtain, the wizards.  We have turned the government over to the greedy jackals of Wall Street while burying our heads in the sand.  We have failed our Great Nation.

However, it is not too late.  It is time to demand responsibility and good stewardship from our politicians.

Every politician has promised a balanced economy, jobs, health care and nirvana.  However, they have failed to state how these promises are going to be achieved.  There are no detailed solutions or business plan for the country but we do have very impassioned speeches.  Speeches filled with National Pride, Patriotism and Rhetoric, all aimed at us.  If we are real Americans, we will vote for them.  Very little of the hot wind being produced has an ounce of facts, fresh ideas or direction.  We are being sold hype, snake oil and trickery, all produced on a grand soap box.   

Americans should make it mandatory for every political party and politician to state their plan, in writing.  Each plan should be a combination resume and company overview with departmental summaries and projections, with forecasts.  The company in question is the Government of the United States.  In reality, we want a business plan for incoming politicians and an annual report from incumbents.  We, Americans, want to see substance, not hype.

These plans should be available to every citizen for a full review, in at least an electronic format, written clearly and concisely.  Furthermore, Americans should be able to question these documents and their underlying facts, just like stock holders in a corporation.

If you see America as a business, which it is; your politicians are the Members of the Board and the Executive Offices.  The civil servants and military are the general employees of the corporation, divided into departments and rank.  The Citizens of America are the stock holders, THE INVESTORS, in the company and every stock holder holds an equal vote.  Elections are the Annual Meetings.

In business, stockholders vote for their Board Members and Officers and over the Annual Report.  You can vote to accept, reject, or modify it.  In the political arena; a party platform establishes the agenda and each politician provides modifications and details to the report, each personalizing the report to reflect their skills and opinions.  The stockholders (Citizens) vote for the best candidate for the job, as well as, the most logical report/plan.  A competent executive can adapt and develop a strong working module from a sound foundation, whether he agrees with the original design or not.

Recently, we have voted in many incompetent and detrimental Board Members, as well as, Executives.  I am not pointing a finger at a particular person because I feel we need to replace them all.  Given recent actions and facts, I would feel very comfortable in stating we may have one good politician out of every hundred.

Demand substance!  Demand to see their full business plan; with details, directions and contingencies!  Demand to see the Annual Reports.  It is our country and they work for us, not the other way around.  We are the stock holders, the Investors, and they are wasting our money and ruining our country.
